Bonehead’s Texas BBQ

Texas BBQ in the California???  Oh yeah Baby!  Dave Roberson has been smoking his finger lickin' meats for well over 25 years, and in 2015 he opened up Bonehead's BBQ in the upscale town of Lafayette, Ca.

The portions are hearty and the food is just plain GOOD! I was suprised to see Collard Greens on the menu, because this is not a regular menu item in this area. They were seasoned to perfection and were served with a hunk of cornbread and honey butter on the side. The Baby Back ribs were succulent and just fell off the bone.

You have a choice between Baby Back Ribs, chicken, hot link sausage, pulled pork or brisket. I'm pleased to say that I sampled all of them except the chicken, and they were delish! Most of the meats are locally sourced and you can taste the quality in each and every bite. I ordered the juicy portion of the brisket because I think it has more flavor than the lean. The mac-n-cheese was off the chart and full of ooey, gooey deliciousness.  I'm not a mayonaise fan, so I really like the fact that the potato salad doesn't call for it in the recipe at Bonehead's.

Just like everthing else at Bonehead's, the desserts are made fresh inhouse, on a daily basis. I ordered the Nilla Puddin' which tastes very similar to a southern Banana Puddin'. It was the perfect way to end my meal.

Besides serving up the best darn BBQ in the Bay Area, Bonehead's has a pretty good selection of craft beers and wine on hand. Happy Hour is 4-6pm Tuesday through Friday and if you are a singer or a song writer, Open Mic Night is every Friday starting at 6;30pm.  They have several big screen televisions so you can watch your favorite sports teams play, so grab you friends and make your way down to Bonehead's BBQ for some good food, good folks, and some good ol' southern hospitality.

This barbecue looks simply delicious. Living in the South I have realized that what we thought was BBQ in Michigan was not. This will be going on my must visit if I am ever in CA.
