The Harlem Globetrotters 205 World Tour made it's way to Oakland, California this past weekend, and I took two of my boys for a night of family fun.  From the time we stepped foot into the arena, you could feel the excitement in the air. There were kids young and old, dribbling basketballs all over the place with parents following behind them toting cotton candy and hotdogs. While we waited for the show to start, we were able to watch some really cool break dancers perform. The dancers ticked, popped it and locked it all over the floor until the Globetrotters were ready to take the floor.

At the beginning of the show, the Globetrotters gave a pep talk about sportsmanship and how important it is to play fair in life as well as on the court. They also recognized all of the men and women in the building that serve(d) in the military, and flashed a big American Flag on the Jumbotron. I thought that was really nice of them to do so, especially since there were quite a few people in the stands that have served our country at one time or another.

Once the show started, the tricks and moves captivated our attention. Did you know that the Harlem Globetrotter have a 4 point shot? That's right! The 4 point shots are taken 35 feet away from the basket in a special circle on the floor. Only a few players made these shots, but when they did the crowd went WILD! Some of the players slid, rolled, crawled and dribbled their way down the court and actually scored baskets after all of that. There were some plays where they passed the ball between 5 players at least 20 times. It was really great to see how great a team can be when they work together.  Speaking of teamwork, The Harlem Globetrotters have partnered with World Vision to help end world poverty, and they offered us a chance to get involved with this organization.  TOGETHER, we can end world poverty.

After the show there was an autograph and photo session. The players were so personable and hospitable to the kids. There were balls, jerseys and programs being signed all around the basketball court. I even saw a girl getting her cell phone case signed, and a guy had them sign his shoe!  There were two female ball players on tour this year, and they were a big hit with the little girls.  It was truly Girl Power at its finest!
